Your desk is in the middle of the open plan floor, equidistant from the window offices and the emergency exit, which is propped open with a copy of Good to Great. The fluorescent lights hum at a frequency you cannot name but will begin to hear in your sleep.

There is a lanyard on your keyboard. The badge photo was taken at 8:47 AM. You looked exactly how you feel. Beside it is a printed agenda for your first day, which begins with a 9 AM meeting called "Welcome to the Family" and ends with something called an Action Item Parking Lot.
